English Summary

Motifs’ View represents a perspective on cultural heritage, the legacy of man’s memories and experiences over several millennia, which shepherd movements, innovations and contraptions of succeeding generations. Within the expressive eyes of our ancestors and the culture-generating architects of the last generation, a stream was flowing, at a university extending across Iran, to water the green land of their heirs, as evidenced by historical buildings, cultural objects, defensive walls, traditional bathhouses, urban development, architectural forms with their divisions and compositions of interior spaces, music, art, ornaments, traditional games, literature, handicrafts, rituals, customs, human emotions, benevolence and giving assistance in social crises, agriculture, bazaar, fair trading, etc., which in turn are manifestations of cultural status of a society over the course of time and a clear mirror perfectly reflecting the conditions of society in different periods. It is this very culture that shapes our behavior, and we are not but the reflection of the departed’s actions.

It seems that, in addition to having some cultural similitudes, each individual person, family, clan, city, and locality has more or less some tangible and intangible differences in the culture of that country that refer to the identity of the city and the region. In some nominations, the title was used instead of the name[۴] or beside it and the title was the mirror of the person’s culture. The historical language and dialects of a city also considered in the line of the culture which originates from the history of that land. Sometimes, the cultural heritage and works have been so closely interwoven with the culture of later people that separating them from each other causes some problems and the new culture is accepted with difficulty and perhaps it is not the expected one, and that is due to the fact that culture is not an everyday affair but comes out of centuries of experience. Iran has a lot of cultural variations and this cultural diversity has bestowed attractiveness and beauty to the strong tree of Iran culture like branches, leaves, and flower. Although there were some cultural and financial shortcomings and deficiencies in the past, in general, the internal cultural beauties of the past outweigh the external beauties of today.

On the basis of this understanding, I, as the writer, have decided to write down the current and available cultural heritage, especially the ones in the figures and designs on Nave (shabestan) wood and magnificent forty-columns of the wooden mosques in Safavid Period of the city. I found out that, in addition to some commonalities with the cultural heritage of the other cities, there are some cultural and art differences that can be useful and effective in the measures, studies, cultural and urban planning, social and economic relationship of the next generation by stating and highlighting these artistic and cultural outstanding indices and in this way reduce the abnormalities, since the current condition and the appearances of the cities are the mirror and representation of the culture of the people and the city management and the city management is the manifestation of the culture of the people of that land[۵]. By viewing the cultural heritage, we think of our past identity that each monument is as a window to the past and there is a world of beauty in the silent cries of the history in the cultural heritage, especially in the wooden mosques of Safavid Period.

It might be said that there is a global message in drawing and designs on the wood of historical mosque of the city that should be explored more and searched and we should not continuously describe the shape and appearance of the colors and designs, we should sharpen the curious and exploring looks more accurately and acquire a new understanding from the historical monuments by using these cultural heritage create peace and friendship in the hearts and human relationship and exploit some useful social rules out of them. Particularly that these architectural designs in these mosques are spiritual and religious, and the human spirit is of supernatural origin, the attempts has been made to make the designs used in these monuments spiritual and have more and deep effect on people, the architecture of Bonab wooden mosques values the roots and maintains the traditions.

What draws more attention is that, in about 1100 square meters area of the figures and designs on the wood of the mosques of Safavid Period[۶], one cannot find any case of which has the color and smell of violence. This technique and art flows in all the mosques of the region that all in a single language is telling the truth that there is no violence in the school of God of beauty and the beneficent the merciful God, unfortunately, the reality is different. We should restore the peace and pleasure of living and life to humans by finding the reasons and the origins for this violence which are committed by the name and sake of God and on behalf of God and by some cultural steps to modify them.

Basically, the religions have appeared to remove the evils of society and improve the affairs of people of their age at their emergence with regard to the needs of the time and have actually been welcomed by people, therefore, religion cannot possess violence and ugliness and for this reason, the Prophets are called peacemakers. The later custodians have entered the violence, selfishness, ambition, deception, and dominance into the religion. When God is the only power, so, the custodians and responsible people should play the role of encouraging and warning for peace, stability, honesty, and integrity among human beings. As all humans at the birth and during childhood, from every religion, ideology, race, language, ethnic background, tribal, and class, are friend with each other and play together with intimacy and happiness. Conflict, hatred, enmity, war, and fights among them will be acquired from the elders of the tribe into their minds and gradually become permanent enmity among them and lead to war and bleeding.

In the decoration of the drawings and designs of inside of the historical mosques of Bonab, nature is portrayed and certainly, this message and concept is consistent with human nature. The flower, leaves, and plant are the symbol of peace, friendship, and kindness. Blooming of the flowers in the shape of sunshine is the symbol of guiding and luminous lights of God into our hearts. In these places, skillful painters, consciously, with a free mind, and released soul, painted with the warm and exciting colors such as cobalt-blue, turquoise, orange, and brown along with the designs of flower, plant, bud, ivy, and medallion like brocade fabric, in the people’s view, pulled on the roof of the mosque, like the gallery which leads the viewer into thinking and returns him into his own nature, when human takes his head up to the sky in order to demand guidance from God and sees the facial expressions of God’s beauty and the Lord and sings the prayer of Ahsan Al-Hal, the attractions of these masters of arts are very pleasant.

The art in these galleries suggests that religion loves beauties and any interpretation of violence in any language, form, and way in the religion an in the life of people is rejected, condemned, and unaccepted. They should learn from the creators of these arts to love human dignity, practice kindness and love and shedding superstition, irritability, extremist, and excesses. God is beautiful and the beauty creatures and makers of life love human Godly. Where there is art, the God beauty is obvious in all aspects and wherever there is beauty, there is the presence of God, this expression is evident from the designs and motifs’ view.

The interior columns of the mosques are like tress with foliage and flowers covered the sky of the mosque, and when the transcendental man raises his head up to the sky with such nature, he can see the face of the Lord in the heavens, and when he bows down he can see the beautiful nature upon the carpet in front of his eyes and he thanks such creator with all the beauties of life and with Takbir and gratitude takes the head from the prostrate in order not to be suffered from the harsh winter of the life, another uprising and new ask begins because he is aware of the difficulty of the way and knows the slips of the human.

The reconciliation, alliance, and union of most religions lie in returning to the messages conveyed by the artists at this kind of divine places which illustrate peace, reconciliation, and kindness and avoid horrible and frightening representations. In other words, they did not seek to subdue people through fear, greed, and deception as is attested at most elite structures.

Despite the existing cultural and financial shortcomings and deficiencies as with any period in the past, the interior beauty of the past in general outweighs today’s exterior beauty. I hope this collection will contribute to the continued suvival of the cultural heritage of this historical region.

When EbrahimBeigSayyah comes to Bonab in Qajar Era,in the short time, he can perceive the works and culture of the city from the people’s face and he writes “… people of the city are often hardworking and activist and satisfied (i. e. , they are not lord, master, and khan)  … and there is no bankruptcy and failure among them” / and “… in townspeople’s behavior there is no corruption and they are not burgher and wanton, especially, there are known to the desirable traits of hospitality” / or he writes “… if a person titled truly in Iran it is the title of Seyf Al-Ulama given to Seykh Ali Qazi, leader of resistance of the city against offenders in Bonab …”.  And when RalinsonSayyahsees Bonab he writes “… neat alleys and fluent raceways and systematic and good looking tree planting  made this city somewhat similar to Khoy, which to me, is one of the systematic and neat cities in Iran …”.

[۶]. That has remained and not ruined till now, in the past there were more than 24 wooden mosques in this city.
